nori kitteh bento

Happy Friday, bento pals! It's been a busy week, looking forward to the weekend--how about you? Today's bento features a kitty shaped onigiri filled with avocado and seasoned rice. She's playing with a colorful ball of "fu", or decorative wheat gluten.

Zucchini with melted manchego cheese, marigold-petaled corn, fresh oregano, ripe blackberries and a watermelon flower keep kitty company. I love these rainbow-colored fu!
Enjoy the weekend!

Bentobird, I am sooo impressed with your nori kitteh! It's a perfect little sculpture! And with avocado inside, tasty too, I bet. Those fu are so interesting. I don't think I've ever seen them. Where did you find them?

Hi Sonoma Bento! Thank you, she was fun to make :) I found the fu at Sunrise Mart, a cute and nicely stocked Japanese market in NYC :)

Pretty neat that fu! What does it taste like? Reminds me I need to make Si a fresh catnip ball - Happy weekend!

Hi Judy, yes I love their colors and playfulness...no flavor to speak of, however... I'd love to see Si playing with a catnip ball! Have a relaxing, fun Sunday :)

I'm so amazed! How did you wrap your nori kitten so precisely!!! Too cute to be eaten!

I am in WOW to see your nori kitten. So cute! This bento is a great combination of beauty and cuteness. Well done Jenn :)

Hi KidsDreamWork, many thanks for your sweet comment! I recently tried a slightly more expensive and better quality brand of nori and have found it much more durable than previous types. When dampened and smoothed over rice, this nori stayed strong but flexible enough to mold--yay!

Aw, delightful to read this, Lia as cute and beautiful bentos are your specialty!

wow, i'm so impressed with that kitty-shaped onigiri, you have some fantastic hand-molding skills! this bento really shows a lot of your playful personality, i love it :-)

hi megan, thanks so much! my recent onigiri discovery/breakthrough was investing in pricier and better quality sheets that don't tear when moistened, yay! the first version of this kitteh looked really obese so I had to keep squishing and flattening her out!
