mini wonton and garden zucchini bento

Hi and happy Friday! I had a beautiful moment in the garden yesterday, when just at the instant I noticed the spiky huge leaves of our artichoke plant (a sort of centerpiece of the main bed) had issued its first purple tinged artichoke, a hummingbird hovered into view, just about two feet away and looked at me in a brief, piercing way before flitting off. I never tire of seeing them! As I write this post, two hummingbirds are jousting/playing and squeaking near the tall pink roses....

This bento features a little leaf shaped dish of chicken-cilantro mini wontons from Trader Joe's, pink Japanese ginger pickles, avocado sakuras and sweet golden tomatoes, and in the blue dish, just picked zucchini sauteed in butter and lightly dusted with sea salt--simple and sun flavored.

I have several varieties of morning glory planted which I hope to see climb up the far garden wall and more are coming into bloom each day. Have a relaxing and beautiful weekend!

two cooling salads bento

Cooling salads bento for another hot day here in Santa Rosa...avocado/romaine with ginger dressing and chilled rice with chopped beef bulgogi, scallions, cukes and mint, tossed in drizzle of nam pla sauce. Really enjoying the silky and sun-radiant poppies blooming right now!

cheese bunny sandwich bento

Happy Friday! For lunch today: toasted whole grain sammie filled with crunchy yellow pepper and tangy goat cheese. I love the heart shape of kaiware sprouts! French radish from the farmer's market, butter lettuce and sliced carrots with tarragon also inside, along with edible violas and daikon flowers.

Wishing you a lovely and relaxing weekend!

picnic-y sandwich bento

Happy Friday! Today's bento has a fresh picnic feel, with a brie and turkey sandwich and farmer's market cherries and apricots. We'll be driving to a favorite bakery later and maybe continue the trip to the oceanside. Enjoy the weekend...

rice paper sushi bento

Hi there! Today's bento features colorful rice paper wrapped sushi from Nijiya Market in San Francisco's Japantown. Also from that same fun source: spicy kaiware daikon sprouts and sakura zuke pink pickles, which I've combined with cooked kale for a nutritious salad.

Happy bentoing this week!

smoked salmon tartine bento

Happy Friday! Celebrating the end of a busy week with a smoked salmon tartine, made with goat cheese, garden dill, and dabs of aioli mustard. Peppery arugula and tiny goat cheese hearts decorated with purple sage blossoms. Juicy-sweet yellow mini tomatoes are for lunch, too.

I crafted the food picks with a favorite set of Rilakkuma stickers in which RK and friends are chilling out in Paris, berets and baguettes in tow. Speaking of things French, we visited Recherche du Plaisir here in Santa Rosa yesterday after reading about about a new batch of pineapple-coconut macarons being made. So yummy!

Enjoy a relaxing weekend, friends!
