flower onigiri bento

This bento features a flower-shaped onigiri made using a Japanese wooden onigiri mold, one of several sent by a lovely bento friend--many thanks, you know who! Looking forward to trying the other interesting shapes including a graceful gourd. I've filled today's onigiri with spicy crab salad: red chili flavors and crab have a special affinity, especially with a touch of mayo. Ebi fumi furikake for soft color and sesame-shrimp savor on sprinkled on top.

Baby lettuce, colorful edible petals of marigold and snapdragon, avocado with more spicy crab, a mini onigiri topped with salmon roe, mint, kiwi, cherries and fresh figs also for lunch...all watched over by a happy animal quartet. Happy Tuesday, bento pals!

Very pretty! Aren't bento bloggers the nicest people? The mold is beautiful. I can't wait to see more. Are they onigiri molds? Or are they mooncake molds that you just used for onigiri? I was just curious. I love all the edible flowers that you add.

Hi Lyndsey, thank you! Yes indeed, I agree :)Just changed the text to clarify about the molds, which are specifically for onigiri. Mooncake molds are so beautiful, btw. Glad you like the flowers--yay for summer color! Looking forward to your new posts :)

I have some wooden onigiri molds too; very unique and cool, aren't they? I want to have crab salad for sure this week after seeing yours now!
Simply delightful!

Lia, that's the best thing to hear as your bentos have that same effect on me, combined with awe (and often, squeals)!

Hi sherimiya :) Yes--they are like small works of art, unique and cool indeed! This version of crab salad was fast and simple: just crab meat, sriracha sauce and mayo. The chili tanginess of sriracha was delightful with crab, yum! Have a lovely Wednesday :)
