shiso snack bento

Hi bento pals and happy almost-Friday! Today's snack bento included fresh and aromatic shiso leaves, chicken salad with Japanese eggplant pickles, sesame dressing and favorite summer bento companions, bright peaches and cherries. A cute eggplant charm from a shop in San Francisco's Japantown rests alongside.

I was so happy to find shiso bunches for sale at my local farmer's market this week, first time finding them there. Peaches, tomatoes and other summer produce abounded...

The weekend is almost here--enjoy!

Your photos and posts are like a summer postcard, glorious colors, reflections of time and place and a sighed, "wish you were here." Thank you so much for continuing to share.

I was reading about shiso leaves in my new cookbook and now seeing them in your lovely bento they intrigue me all the more. Yikes, another foodie mission. I hope our farmer's market will have some to try!

Hope you enjoy your weekend friend.

Hi Robin! Smiling from your wonderful comment :D
Shiso's subtle yet distinctive flavor tastes so very Japanese and I hope you'll find a good source for this green and delightful herb.

Wishing you a weekend full of exciting food adventures, my friend!

Hi Jenn, happy Friday to you too. Love the little Japanese girl tucked in among the fruit. I can get shiso leaves at my Asian market, I wasn't sure what to do with it much except use it in my bento.

I did get a post yesterday...I managed one or two up this summer...we didn't get to travel anywhere since Wade opened his own business1

Chat with you later
Cheers!

Hello Ms. Lyndsey! Oh, need to check out your new post, thanks for the heads-up!

Another tasty use for shiso is sliced and added to soba noodles with sauteed onion/ginger/garlic and Korean red pepper paste and yep, you guessed it, perilla oil. Yum, makes me think of sturdy and warming autumn dishes to come!

Best wishes and enjoy the weekend, I'm so glad its here after this hectic week :D
