golden tomato sandwich bento

Hi bento pals! Today's lunch features a golden tomato, bacon and onion sandwich, coleslaw, orange baby tomatoes, little nasturtium leaves, blueberries and a single ripe cherry. The sandwich is decorated with a heart shaped slice of tomato and a sweet white kitty:

The golden tomatoes are from our local farmer's market, and look like the heirloom "Golden Queen" variety pictured on this vintage notebook. Maybe its the Leo in me--I find the name and vibrant golden orange color of these tomatoes so beautiful!

The coleslaw is a blend of thinly sliced cabbage with Greek yogurt and mayo, a touch of rice vinegar. Super sweet indigo blueberries are so good right now and gave lunch a refreshing finish.

Here's Puck, a kitty who lives across the street, lolling about in the catmint on this breezy bright day...hope yours is a good one!

That looks like some delicious (and cute) food! Just with some veggie bacon for me. ^^ Gorgeous pictures by the way.

Golden tomatoes - yum! And I like the bacon idea too ;-)

Mmmm, like the veggie bacon notion--would be a lighter alternative to try. Thanks for your sweet visit, friend.

Hi Lexi! Thanks! Are you enjoying tomatoes this summer, too?

Hi there Jenn! The golden tomato looks wonderful! Perfect lunch for me! The pink flower almost looks fake it's so pretty. A big "hi" to Puck, he does remind me of my daily visitor! Aren't we lucky? :)

Hey, you forgot to mention the peppery nasturtium leaves, did you eat those too?
BTW, I am picking cherry tomatos still and it is the last month of winter here, the weather has been very mild, love any kind of tomato.
Beautiful pics as always.

Hi Lyndsey! Yep, love that we have this shared thing of visitor kitties! Puck is a big, beautiful tabby who talks a good deal when he comes up to you...a definite feline "hello!" The zinnia bloom does have almost perfect petals, now that you mention it...

Are back to school activities starting up for you?

How nice that you are enjoying cherry tomatoes at the end of winter!

You clever minx, how on earth did you find the *just right* vintage notebook to match the orange tomatoes!? And a sweet, sweet touch with the heart and kitty, so whimsical. I needed a little lightness and this post just fit the bill.

Hello and thanks for your sweet comments, Lia! The pink flower is a zinnia I grew from seed. They bloom for a long time and add a cheerful touch to the garden!

Hi Robin! I found the "Golden Queen" notebook at the craft side of a farmer's market in Lynchburg, VA around this time last year...

Ah Jen, you always put me in awe to see the ingredients that I don't have here in my country. That pink flower is just gorgeous! Always love to see your beautiful captures :D

Hey Jenn,

ohhh, i love Puck :) so cute.
I don't like tomatoes pure... i try them often, but... *brrr* no! Little cherrytomatoes, yes, cooked tomatoes, as ketchup and so on, but not pure :D
The Bento looks nice, and the cat-pick is cute.

Anja
