bbq chicken bento

Hi bento pals! Today's bento features some really yummy chicken from last night and a host of summery companions. We marinated chicken thighs in Smokie Joe's BBQ sauce for several hours then roasted them (with a few final minutes in the broiler to caramelize a bit). So good!

Alongside the chicken, lunch includes coleslaw, yellow corn, baby market greens and golden tomatoes, roasted sweet potato slices and a little cup holding cherries and white peach slices. If you are in an area affected by the current U.S. heat wave, stay cool and safe!

Thanks Lyndsey dear! I'm really feeling down-home Americana summer cooking this week--simple, yummy, sunny treats.

Is it crazy hot where you are?

Hi Lia! Thanks for coming by with your warm comments...summer's been interesting to include a long trip in California, feel like I'm still catching up in blogland!

I'm glad you liked this one--simple summery flavors are really appealing to me this month :D

Hi, Jenn. How are you? Super hot weather in US now, is your area affected? Stay coooool and drink more water, take care.
Lovely peaches and delicious BBQ chicken. We love to eat peaches too, but a bit pricey here.

Thanks Emily dear, that's great advice. When I go into the office tomorrow it will be over 100 degrees, yikes! Will be packing a cooling salad bento to be sure :) Have a great upcoming weekend!

hi there Amaaris, thanks for stopping by :) yes, I understand that Germany is cool and a bit dreary this summer...hope there will be a beautiful autumn as compensation? Hubby just said he'd love some cool wet weather as an alternative to this wild heat!

Hard to believe the heat can melt this beautiful bento. Love Smokey Joe's BBQ Sauces as it sweetly infuses the chicken with a surprising undertone of savory.

Hello sweet Morning Glory as you preside over the compact luncheon of delights. A peek of fresh corn, sweet peach, and cherry. Summer's bounty, like a waterfall, spills over us.

Delightful Bento, Dear Jenn.

Thanks Susan! Have a weekend as cheerful as your bento art!

Poetic comments, Robin! So sweet to read.

I've never heard a potential heat index of 120 degrees forecast since moving to the DC area over 10 years ago...so today will be unique! :O

I'm really a fan of the temperate spring and fall seasons, but summer's bright produce offers something to enjoy even during the "dog days"!

Have a super weekend with great food and relaxation :D

No, we are having a pretty normal summer here for Florida. Just low to mid 90s, sometimes upper 80s. We never reach 100 here on the coast. Our afternoon showers are sporadic this year. I missed you post prior I have to go read that one now.

Maybe you should come down here where it is cooler! :D

Hi Lyndsey! That sounds delightful, how nice that it never gets to the 100's where you are. Coastal lovliness...I'd love to take you up on your offer, especially today, hehe!
