mushroom pirogi bento

Hi bento pals! We are digging out from another intense winter storm today. Before the storm came, Jamison and I went out for provisions and in tune with the wintry weather, returned to Russian Gourmet!

This time, we purchased some lovely marinated mushrooms, mushroom pirogi, marinated herring, Polish candies in pretty plum wrappers, okra preserves, sour cream and a few more nice things. Back home, we put together this festive platter and waited for the swirling snow to arrive...
This assortment went very well with oven-crisped black olive bread...

Today's lunch featured the yummy mushroom-cheese pirogi with chanterelles, sour cream and dill, rainbow chard, herring, tangy sauerkraut and marinated mushrooms, a slender little carrot, several blood orange slices and a flower-cut slice of poppyseed muffin made by our sweet pal Cheryl.

We are going to have perogies tonight for dinner! :D Great minds....I picked up some from the European Deli near our house and they look and taste homemade. You sure make them look pretty in your bento. I love the Russian doll pick, I noticed that right off! The marinated mushrooms look purple, the poppy seed muffin is so cute! That was nice of Cheryl.

We don't have any snow, but we keep getting cold fronts come through. We only got up to 61 today, but at least it's sunny! My parents should be arriving in Florida this weekend, they stay for a month. Looking forward to it. You have a great weekend too! Stay warm!

Hi Lyndsey! I remember pics you took of the European Deli, it looked great! Love that we were both on the same pirogi frequency, so cool. Hmmm, I'll take a high of 61, no problem ;D

Hellooo Jenn! Sorry long time no visit. I realized again that I was a huge fan of your bentos and photos. They really brighten my day each time. This bento is also very cutey pretty.
I hope the weather calms down there, though, we both should enjoy the hard winter? ;)

When I first saw this recipe I couldn't believe it, I remembered my childhood when my grandma used to make pierogi, that time I live in Warsaw. Nice memories, would definitely make them for on this weekend.
