april french bento, le refuge

Hello friends! It has been a while...so busy with pre move activities! We had a nice outing to the Old Town Alexandria today, the beautiful historic town on the Potomac...

We had lunch at Le Refuge, a traditional and super tasty restaurant on a leafy street, and could not resist having the squid in tomato garlic (and glace de viande) sauce as we always do...

Jamison's scallops with Pernod were supple, buttery perfection!

My saffron-infused Bouillabaisse (here with rouille-spread toast...yum) was very nice:

In the bento, keeping the romantic French feeling going with artisan macarons in raspberry and pistachio (dessert first, non?), scallop-mango-grapefruit salad in butter lettuce, homegrown shiso and more mango used as an edible baran. Have a great evening--see you soon!

Somehow I think you will miss your northern Virginia haunts despite the new adventures coming your way in California. What a fantastic album your blog will be reviewing these fantastic posts, inspired bentos and glorious images.

Viva la France!

Hi sweet Robin! I am so glad to have, as you say, an album of all the fun we had in this area...work will bring me back East a couple times a year, so I'll still get to see my beloved Old Town again, hooray! As always your comments brought a happy smile, thank you dear :)

Oooh le macaron! I wish I spoke French :) Beautiful bento. I can't wait to see what new sights and flavors you'll share with us from your new city.

Oh, that restaurant sounds divine! I'd love the squid and the scallops too, I think...
And the macarons make the bento look so exotic and fancy... Wonderful!

I know I'll miss these treasures that you visit with all the charm and beauty. Although I think you could be most anywhere and you'd find the beauty in it. And take a stunning photos to boot! I want to grow my own shiso, where did you get it? And yes dessert first, if not, we should have dessert for breakfast ;D
