forest friends bento

Hey bento pals! Today's bento continues the autumnal theme with bear and owl buddies in an October forest. The "bear" is spicy red salmon salad rolled in mixed grains (brown and black rice, barley) and detailed with goat cheese, gouda and nori.

The little owl, aloft in broccoli trees, is a handmade pick fashioned from a Japanese bead and toothpick...
Baby Bella mushrooms, pea shoots, purple cabbage and a bright yellow mini pepper comprise this edible forest; up top, we have granny smith apple slices, a lady apple, dried papaya and a goat cheese heart with honey (for the bear!) and papaya bits.

Another glorious October day, with cosmos in full bloom
cats out and about in the afternoon sun...
maples in fiery glory
Almost to the weekend, have a great one!

How cute! It's funny I just came in from sitting outside on our front porch (it's been such beautiful weather here) petting "our" cat (neighbor's cat that thinks he's lives here) and I had mixed rice for my lunch today. I had short grain brown rice, bamboo, red and black rice, green and black lentils, and barley in my mix. I had it in my bentos box but didn't make such a cute bear out of it! Love the Japanese bead and the heart!

Enjoying your photos again thanks!

Hi Lyndsey! Neat, your grain blend sounds sooo healthy and delish--with lentils, even! Excellent. I was going to sak how "your" kitty was doing recently, nice to get this report. The pretty gal in my pic here was in hunting mode, so not as interactive as she normally is!

Always so nice to visit with you...have a great weekend!

You have the best fall colors! Really envy that. The bento reflects the best of the season, as it always does. Love the hearty mixture of salmon and rice; it looks deliciously satisfying. The owl bead pick is precious, and the kitty is scrumptious!
Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Hi Karen, aw, so nice to read that. Wishing you a relaxing and fun weekend!

Hi Ta, interesting! What was your kitty's name? We are enjoying all the color and freshness right now, but I know it all leads to winter...and the dreary cold! Oh well, that's the cycle of the year here in the Mid Atlantic US, hope I can get better at enjoying instead of enduring the winter months. Maybe through bento?
Have a great weekend!

Hi cherry bento! How are things...is fall a season you enjoy? Thanks for your lovely comments as always :D! Hopping over to your blog...

Fall or autumn as we say here is my favourite season of the year. Over here we're well into spring though (I live in New Zealand, like the rest of the southern hemisphere the seasons are reversed). It's nice to see the seasons changing in your bento's.

Cosmos remind me of my childhood days in Korea! Oh, your creation is so beautiful. Love coming to your blog for an "ahhhhh" moment! :)

Hi Kay! Glad these cosmos were evocative for you...did you grow up in Korea? I was able to visit once and really enjoyed the cuisine and culture!
