korean seafood rice bento

Monday's lunch is based on yummy Korean seafood dolsot from a big portion at H-Mart's always satisfying food court. I've added extra shrimp, and sliced golden squash and peppers and baby tomatoes, all from Saturday's farmer's market. Ripe apricots and a golden plum also inside.

Speaking of the market, it was a riot of intense colors this weekend:
We bought two fresh-baked almond croissants...here's mine before it got devoured!
Morning glory tendrils are coiling across our shrubs and sending up new blooms, fleeting and beautiful:
Jamison's picture of our peppermint plant:

These fun new bento items came over the weekend, love the bright colors and happy animal faces!
Have a great week ahead, guys!

안녕하세요(annyeonghaseyo), Bentobird!

So fresh and colorful.. those market photos are making me drool! I always work early so I rarely get to make it to the better of the farmers markets out here... Glad to see you're making the most of it and sharing these great bentos with us! Thanks! ^_^

Hi Kaimono! OK, still drooling from your post, it made me so hungry I sampled from this bento a bit ahead of schedule!

The tomatoes do look just like gourds...they have a tart-sweet flavor :) Yeah, we need to get the bento (and sweets!) teleporter up and running...
Cheerio!

Thanks Kuusou, I really like "peppy" as a description :D...it reminds me of your uplifting and encouraging comments! Hope your Monday is going well...

Hi Megg, thanks for stopping by! I eagerly await your next culinary creations...still dreaming of the salmon and plum sauce dish. I got plums from the market thinking of it :D

So gorgeous, Jenn! I am so envious of your summer bounty. We have seriously had a lackluster summer so far in wine country. Someone jokingly called it the month of Fogust! Today it seems a bit warmer, but we have barely made it out of the 70s all month long. I need vibrant veggies like these! :)

Bentobird said...

Hi there SB! Fogust...bummer! Though I'd gladly wrap myself in some misty cool fog over the many days of searing humid heat here in NoVA this year...but its evident that the crops love it ;)

Maybe fall's harvest will prove more rewarding in Sonoma--I hope so!

Wow your Korean bento is far better than mine! I love the variety of pepper colors, and the W/B morning glory in particular. This is my first time I see them so I'm glad. The shrimps... nom nom :D

Bentobird said...

Aw, but I loved yours--let's swap next time!
The purple and white striped morning glories are a Japanese variety that start with the letter A and have an endlessly long name!

Can't wait to see you next bento! Hi to Pigchan :D!

Hi Lexi! Thanks for visiting with these sweet comments :) This bento reminded me how mich I love the combo of rice and seafood!

Bentobird said...

Dear Lia, that would be so fun, I'd love to see what you'd select from the market...and how you'd prepare it :)

Purrrrrrrple peppers! *envy* ;)

I don't think you can get those over here. As a matter of fact, I don't think I ever saw them before! Except for your previous blogpost, that is ;)
