Silk Road Bento

This bento was inspired by the violet scarf my wonderful husband brought to me yesterday from Kyrgyzstan, a stop on his long journey home after serving several months in Afghanistan. We are both in love with the foods of the Silk Road, and this bento reflects some of the cross-cultural influences found along its rich and winding paths.

A layer of brown basmati rice with golden raisins, cinnamon, and almonds lays a sweet foundation, cohabiting with broccoli and tahini-garlic sauce, beet maple leaf with pomegranate garnish, a turmeric shrimp skewer, chickpeas with ginger, garam masala, scallions and almonds, and tucked into the endive leaf, more tahini-garlic sauce!

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
Rumi

Welcome home, Baby!
