cooling rice and seafood bento

A refreshing lunch for another warm late-summer day: lightly rice vinegared rice, crabmeat. ikura, radish sprouts, Japanese eggplant pickle and a few juicy snow peas. We went to Mitsuwa in San Jose this week and had a great time shopping and eating. Delicious ramen with spicy miso broth from Santouka, co-located with Mitsuwa:

The foods of Hokkaido were featured on this visit to Mitsuwa. We enjoyed some delish crab croquettes from this special event, yum...

Sweets to celebrate the coming season:

More pretty candies, love these colors!

Happy cooking, friends!

I am so jealous. I wish I lived near a Mitsuwa. Your bento looks so delish. I've had to eat *a lot* of rice lately and those pretty sprouts look so yummy with the crab. Such lovely colors too. Classic BentoBird!

This looks like a perfect cool summer meal; light and refreshing!

The colours in your bento and the cheek of that nectarine make me long for summer.

Thank you Judy! We went a little nuts on this visit, stocking up on, amongst other things, Norwegian mackerel that we can't find in Santa Rosa :) On a rice kick here too: have you tried the plain but delish Calrose variety? It is the perfect mild starch, a subtle plain canvas for all kinds of umami-goodness!
