sunday market bento

Hi guys! It has been a busy, exciting time since my last post--very happy to report that we've found our dream house! A Victorian from 1895, in a lovely and central location (quite walkable to downtown), the house is full of history, nifty and exciting architectural details including high ceilings and a gingerbread wraparound porch, and a large backyard garden that basks in full, bright Santa Rosa sun for most of the day!

Soon we'll be able to grow the full sun flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables long dreamed of. The property comes with a Gravenstein apple tree, a Meyer lemon tree, a guava tree...we feel truly blessed by good fortune in our search culminating in such a special home that will be a joy to live in and cultivate. Pics to come, of course!

As we settle into to our new town, we are finding enjoyable places (admittedly abundant in this happy town) and routines. One that may well "stick": breakfast at folksy, delicious Hank's Creekside (rich omelettes, pancakes with house-ground flour, the best corned beef hash ever...) and then a drive out to Sebastapol for its sweet Sunday market.

A farmer's market with a baby animal petting zoo? Well, that's one I'm going to want to return to!
Some images from the market (including animals) and market-based bento follow:

This iris specialist has several gorgeous varieties; this lilac and white one will be in my new garden for sure:

A tapestry of edible blooms

Happiest little goats resting in the market petting zoo!

Jamison captured this great bird portrait...hens hopped around the same petting zoo enclosure as the goats and bunnies.

Aw!

In the market bento, micro greens and edible flowers, local cherries, and a centerpiece of avocado and baby shrimp...

See you again soon, have an awesome week ahead!

Hi Robin dear! You know, I'm so happy to report that that mysterious sense of "coming home" when we visited Santa Rosa last year has really been confirmed by every day here--there's a relaxed, buoyant, colorful spirit, a warmth and graciousness that we love. The beautiful way this home came into our lives (wonderful current owners we connected well with) just deepens the sense of being in the right place.

Setting down roots here with home and garden will be a joy indeed. Hugs and happy week ahead to you!

The last time I visited Santa Rosa I kind of fell in love with the place, so I sense your euphoria. I hope you have many happy days (and happy bentos and pictures) in your new home. I love gingerbread detailed Victorians!
