bright autumn bento

Hi bento pals, happy Friday! Today's meal was inspired by a lovely lunch bag in folkloric colors and patterns (complete with cute birds) sent by a good friend in California (thanks JG!).

In keeping with its Slavic cheerfulness, the bento contains onion pierogies from a Russian deli, oven roasted butternut squash, red cabbage dressed with yogurt-garlic dressing, and for dessert, sliced pear and a mini cupcake with spicy crystallized ginger and papaya bits...

Amazing light today, everything cool, crisp and full of peak vividness....

Have a relaxing and fun weekend, friends!

Love it, Jenn! So colorful. I love how you incorporate a live flower into the background of the colorful bag. I had to do a double take to make sure the flower was or was not part of the print. And I love the bento. How fun... I learned of the slavic influence of the bag from your post. Had no idea! Now I know:) Sound like the beginning a a lovely weekend for you and Jameson. Blessings to you, my friend.

Greetings from Tuscany!

очень хорошо Your bento mesmerizes with the intense onion flavor. Were they carmalized and did it also have potato? That sweet and spicy ginger is a fun surprise in the cupcake.

I can hardly believe you are expecting snow already! Hope your chores go smoothly and you have time to enjoy the changing light and the slavic good cheer.

Hi Robin! So nice of you to comment while in Italy...hope you are having the most amazing and educational visit. Yes, the filling of the pierogi
had a nicely sweet caramelized onion flavor that went well with the potato filling--yum.

Best wishes!
