mini musubi bento

Hi bento friends! We had a fun weekend, how about you? To start this post, here's Monday's bento, inspired by Debra's beautiful Sampler Bento Box. Her lovely mini-musubi really intrigued me and prompted musings about possible variations on this theme...

So, from the top left, a mini musubi filled with avocado and topped with grilled eel, the next is filled with baby teriyaki octopus and has ume nameshi, pickled ginger and a punched nori decoration, middle tier has ginger salmon salad inside, rolled in ebi fumi furikake and an avocado filled version topped with pink and yellow radish pickles.
Farmer's market cherries and a ripe apricot added for juicy sweetness...

Speaking of the farmer's market, images from this Saturday: fresh garlic and garlic "scapes":

Perfectly ripe and delicate raspberries:

And cherries...
Pretty plants for sale...

This adorable puppy was relaxing in the crafts section of the market:
Walking home, there was a splendid blue-violet hydrangea:

We went into D.C. today, drawn back to the French buffet at the National Gallery...it was even tastier this time! I ate a huge amount of ratatouille...yum!

As a cold front moved in, storm clouds gathered...
By early evening, the storm had passed, revealing a brilliant blue sky...

 And rain-nourished flowers...
Have a lovely week ahead, bento pals!

It looks so fresh and colourful - very well presented! You are braver than me - I only had eel once and that was only because I was told it was haddock. (?!) But I don't think I could ever try octopus. Though I must say, I'd be tempted if I was served your bento sampler! :D

This bento looks cheery to me as it's so colorful. I like the floral pattern of the Nori. I have paper punchers which I use to make cards. Perhaps I can use it for punching the Nori, haha! The berries looks juicy and sweet ^.~ Nice shots!

Thanks Carol! Hope your Monday is off to a good start...would love some of your strawberry quick bread with my next cup of coffee!

Hi Asfora! Please consider ordering a roll with eel next time you are out for sushi. Japanese style, as in this bento, it is roasted with a delicious sweet teriyaki glaze and has a mild, succulent flavor! In combo with avocado, a total treat! Thanks for your visit and sweet comments my friend :)

Hi there Kaimono! Yep, I used a paper punch for the nori to get this pretty floral design...looking forward to seeing yours. Have a good day and happy cooking....

Hi Jenn, How sweet of you to mention me! I'm honored and by the looks of your beautiful bento...have also been out done! :) I like how you used the different patterned cups. What a creative way to add textural interest.
When I used to eat meat, unagi eel was a fave!

Hi Debra :) Glad you liked this one--I feel I have a ways to go till I capture the cuteness of yours! But what a fun motif to play with--would love to do more of these...the start of a series? Yep, unagi is delish!

Lovely bento and great origami paper (?) background! But what I like best... is seeing you in the galley window! :))

And I'm glad to hear the nori flower was punched so I can keep those clumsy-no-cutting-skills grrl feelings on the background ;)

Hi gnoegnoe! Many thanks! This is my fave piece of washi paper...I love its deep yet bright colors and wisteria dreaminess :) yay for nori, I mean paper punchers--can't imagine hand cutting anything so detailed and symmetrical!

Hi Lyndsey! It's nice to see bento inspiration shared, as I mentioned in my post, Debra's versions just stopped me in my tracks and I could not wait to try variations on her awesome mini musubi idea...

I'm also new to the long green winding garlic "scapes"--thought "snakes" would have been a more accurate name! Thanks for visiting, dear!

aw thanks megan! I found the punch at Michael's Arts and Crafts here locally and hoped it would work on nori :) have a great evening...I had to run for a snack right after reading about your yummy latest bento!

Hi there Izumi, greetings and you are soooo sweet! Yep, let's share/steal bento inspirations, your comment made me laugh cause yesterday I meant to comment that I wanted to "steal" your beautiful bright pink, golden yellow and asparagus green palette for a bento of my own!

I've entered a "bento dryspell" again and I think this is the inspiration I needed! I will soon by concocting my own "mini musubi sampler"! :D
