Hi bento pals! What a beautiful May weekend we've just enjoyed, mostly mild and bright with refreshing evening rain. Roses and peonies have burst into fragrant bloom...
Some fresh selections at the farmer's market on Saturday:
This cute border collie surveyed the crowds from the farm truck:
As part of our ongoing explorations of local historic towns, we visited charming Culpeper, VA for the first time on a misty Saturday afternoon...
Fried catfish at the friendly Frost Cafe was made with care. Great lima beans, too.

Monday's bento features chicken in Thai red curry sauce that I made for Sunday's lunch with cilantro, avocado, green beans and egg noodles, a snow pea shots and viola salad, apricot and strawberries....

Blog land is just filled with beautiful photos of peonies today. One of my favorite flowers, but I've never had them in my garden - wonder if they would grow here in No Cal. I am always so inspired by your wonderful ventures. It's almost farm market time and I can't wait to get out and let the fresh foods dictate my mealplan. Such beautiful photos as always - I've enjoyed viewing your weekend with you.
How refreshing to just read your blog and those beautiful photos in a Monday morning.

Thank you Laura! How fun to find a photograpic pal who is inpired by so many of the same sorts of things--your pink tulip image from this weekend was stunning, instant fav!
Roses, peonies, irises and border collies. This is my kind of posting. Your images just vibrate with the promises of spring fulfilled. The tasty Thai red curry bento just sets it off.
My peonies are just about to bloom, their heads are full and round with the blush of color (pink and white) just forming. I think they will be bursting by end of next week. So let Karina know they do grow in the Santa Cruz Mountains!
Wishing you a fabulous week Jenn!

Hi there Mauri!! Happy May, indeed the month of lush and colorful blooms...thanks for visiting, I'll bet it is gorgeous in your part of Italy right now!
Ha! This spring I've got myself a small sage plant on the balcony... let's see if it'll grow flowers!!! Although I thought you weren't supposed to let your herbs bloom because it takes away their taste?
Gorgeous bento -- it gives me such a sunny feeling!
Er... flavour. Not taste. :\
Hi Gnoe! I'd never heard that before...I love flowers, I love herbs, so when they combine, its joy for this cook :D
Happy spring my friend...may it be sunny!!
