salmon and rice bento


The sun has finally come out after days of rain and clouds, illuminating early flowers and light green leaves! Monday's bento features rice, butter-poached salmon, edamame, asparagus and bright sunny yellow slices of takuan...


Behind the kitty baran, red grapefruit and a spring green apple bunny. The nifty newspaper print wax paper is from a lovely bento buddy, I love the modern contrast it gives to this fairly traditional bento!

Looking very much forward to the 51st Annual Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival in D.C. next weekend... funds will be raised at this event to support Japan's recovery effort. Speaking of which, let's keep bento4japan going strong!

Love the wooden box and how you make the salmon into Sakura petals.. did you tear the edge so they looks naturally uneven?

hi Bobo! the salmon flaked into these
petal-like shapes when I gently separated a filet, so I kind of ran with the sakura petal concept :)

would you believe that when i first saw this picture i thought the salmon flakes were beautiful rose petals?! would have been in keeping with your flair for incorporating natural elements into your bento, but this is even better. beautiful AND delicious, seasonal and fresh. delightful!

So astonishing pretty! Salmon petals fit perfectly in this delicious bento! Aaw... I sit here and keep imagining the beautiful blossoms and the fresh Spring air ^^ (while we have snow and dirt if I look outside. bleh)
The green bunny is such a lovely touch :)

I have been trying to comment here before...it must not of gone through. Those blossoms are amazing, on of the best part about spring is the blooming trees. I like the green apple bunny. I need some ideas like this for what I can use my cutters on. I get stuck with just egg sheets or cheese! :D
