Hi bento pals--hope you are having a great week! Spring continues to unfurl...some images from our garden:
I planted these purple tulips for Jamison, purple is his favorite color...
An incredible wisteria in Old Town Alexandria
Buzz......
Loved this turquoise door with kitty cat knocker!
Today's bento features yummy Japanese curry (medium hot) chicken. For dinner last night, we cooked four chicken thighs with one and half pieces of S & B Golden Curry sauce mix...its a nice savory version of curry with mellow, peppery finesse. Enjoyed with soba noodles and had a little leftover of both for today's lunch!
Also in the bento: asparagus, brussels sprouts, beni shoga pickle...
and a rosette of butter lettuce and baby carrots with a pink pickle heart.
Have a great Thursday, guys!

yum, curry and soba sure would hit the spot right about now! love the super hot tones in the carrot-and-pickle section, contrasted against the relaxed and crisp green of the lettuce. and the purple tulips are gorgeous! tons of purple flowers around for jamison :-)
Hi Jenn,
I just had a curry tuna sandwich for my lunch today! I am so glad you mentioned the S & B Golden Curry sauce mix...I almost picked some up and I thought you had to use the whole thing in one meal. Good to know you use pieces of it. Now I have to remember where I saw the medium one (Wade can't take the hot one). I wish I could find asparagus that fat, mine is so skinny. I think I'll have to go to the Amish Market.
I do miss seeing tulips this time of year. The purple tulips you planted are stunning Jenn. I'll bet you smile every time you look at them (or at least Jamison does) :D
The wisteria is beautiful there. And my fav is the aqua door with the kitty knocker!
hi megan! I'm a new convert to Japanese curry--Jamison had fond memories of it from back when he lived in Japan years ago...it marries so well with soba!
Thanks for your sweet comments, wishing you a lovely spring evening :D
Hi Lyndsey! Not for the first time, we're sharing a flavor frequency! We were laughing last night over the label's medium hot designation, thinking that for us it was not hot at all, tee hee!
The curry is designed to break into the size piece you need... it easily dissolves in hot water into a supple sauce. Yep, this fat asparagus is a departure from the usual spring skinnies I've bought in the past and has a nice texture :D
Thanks for your visit, dear! ^^
Delicious ne..I want to eat the soba too. :) Purple is my favorite color too...hehe...definetely love the purple tulip so much, so romantic feel. ;)
Hi Emily! Purple has a very special mood and feeling, and I like your point about the tulip looking romantic!!
I love curry too.. we just had curry Chicken and potato for dinner last night..
reading your blog brighten up my day.. I love those beautiful pictures of flowers..
And I am in love with the Wisteria.. Its so beautiful.. like a flowing purple dress..
and my favourite colour is purple too.. :)
Mm, I made curry lentils today. Feels like a curry kind of day I guess! love that cool door and knocker too -- so southern France...
Yummy!! Your pictures always make me jealous for spring. I am sitting here freeeezing today!!
Oh My! your pictures never fails to amaze me!! love all the colors ... happy springs!! and bento looks delish! ^__^
I still have a few tubs of Japanese curry in my freezer!!! Yeah, so lazy to cook so I cook once and freeze them! hehehe
Your bento looks so yummy and those flowers.... so pretty! Definitely it is spring now!
Beautiful spring colors! And curry yakisoba is something I have to try soon! Thanks for the idea :))
Hi Bobo! I'm amazed by reading how many of us were having curry dishes this week! Wisteria looks simply magical in bloom--the way its many shades and tones of lilac, violet and lavender shimmer together.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the blooms with me, dear!
Hi Sheri! Yes, it really WAS a curry kind of day! Curry lentils sound wonderfully flavorful and healthy. And I agree, there's a Provence-charming vibe to this door...
Hi Jenn, we've got to get spring out to you ASAP!! Maybe our spring bentos will help the cause? :D
Hi Lina, Happy spring to you as well! I'd love to see the spring flowers of the Pacific Northwest...even if they take a little longer to get started? :D
Have a beautiful holiday weekend!
Hi Angeleyes! Mmmmm, how do you like to use this savory item? I loved it with soba, next time I'd like to try it over rice...
Hi Arudhi, thanks so much for your kind comments! I get food inspiration from your blog all the time, glad I was able to share a tasty notion with you in turn :D
You have such an eye for colour.
hello shaz, thank you! color is happiness to me :D
I love Japanese curry, but I have to say I love most curries in general :). Love to see the beautiful spring colours in your bento box...:D).
Hi CG! Yep, curries are delicious and healthful. Have a great weekend, buddy! ^^
Wowee, so beautiful and the flavors make me hungry. We had noodles last night at a local restaurant and they were sadly quite bland. This would have been so much better! Have a great weekend, Jenn!
Hi Michelle! Dining out blandness is a bummer :( Sometimes when that happens to me I get super motivated to go home and try to cook what I wish had been served!
This was dish super easy, my first voyage to the land of Japanese curry sauce--would love to hear if you make/like this dish :D
Hi Jenn, This week is spinning to a close and I get a wonderful break via bentobird! My son gave me a black/purple tulip for my birthday and I am loving your Jameson's blossoms so much while I am waiting for signs of life from this sweet little bulb. I don't know if it has anything left to give. We'll see.
The wonderful aqua door and kitty door knocker reminds me of the colorful doors of Dublin. You know there is an Irish joke in there...
Savoring the curry, asparagus and smiling at the whimsical kitty. Can't wait to see what happens during your weekend's adventures.
Hi Robin!
I really enjoy your thoughtful, fun comments, thank you! I also look forward to seeing what culinary adventures you'll have this holiday weekend and reading all about them at your blog...hope the gift tulip blossoms!
Yay I mostly pick up SB golden curry, I like it! And I love using it for curry soba/udon. But I never thought I'd put curry soba in a bento. That's a nice idea!
Stunning flowers as always Jenn! Tulips around here haven't open up yet. It seems like you are from the future! Have a fun and cozy weekend Jenn!! :)
Hi babykins! Cool, we liked the flavor of this brand of curry and will try a "hotter" version once this box is done. The noodles were tasty at room temperature, so worked for bento pretty well :D
Would love to see the tulips when they bloom in your area!! Thanks for your visit!
Came to your blog via Dosanko Debbie, your photos are ravishing, they look good enough to eat and the bento (S?) look tasty too!
Carole
