Happy Friday bento pals!
Today's bento is built around treats from the Russian Gourmet shop. Kasha is a very tasty and healthful food, and I'm happy to report the discovery of a recipe that results in wonderful non-mushy kasha with a buttery flavor and lightly crisp top layer--delish!
Savoy cabbage stuffed with goat cheese, dill and roasted red pepper, lamb slices with dill pesto (dill, walnuts, garlic, yogurt, salt whirred in the blender for a unique and yummy green sauce), golden beet flowers and goat cheese stuffed baby red peppers also for lunch.
A fruit drink from Russian Gourmet:
Blackberries, pear and these cute Russian chocolates for dessert...
Have a lovely weekend!

What beautiful packaging on the drink and the chocolates! Fit so well with your lovely bento style! Question I've been meaning to ask forever: I love your wooden bento boxes, but I've always been apprehensive to use them. Are they easy to clean? Do they stain? Do they transport well? I assume it's lacquered, right?
Hi Megg, thanks for your lovely comments! I'm fond of this simple bento box, it is easy to clean but prone to stain as not lacquered, I'd say it transports well. Have a great weekend, always fun to read of your foodie adventures!
You have the most amazing shops - Russian Gourmet - how fantastic is that. I love everything in this beautiful box, but you know my favorite has to be the sweet chocolates. Thanks goodness for pictures on the juice box - who knows what you could be drinking. Have a wonderful weekend.
Gorgeous shots, Jenn! I love the way you arranged the cabbage, lamb, beets, and peppers. So beautiful. I need some new flavor ideas, and I just love dill. I see a dill bento in my near future! :)
your bentos are always so beautiful and inspiring. I need to get back to bento and soon.
thanks for sharing. :)
I wish we had a Russian market around here, those chocolate treats are adorable. The stuffed cabbage is really making me hungry! Beautiful photos and a gorgeous bento!
Hi Karina, awesome comments, thank you! The wealth of international food shops really is one of my favorite things about living in Northern VA. A German/Nordic emporium and Italian specialty shop are on my shopping agenda soon :D
How about Sacramento--what's the selection like? Hope you are having a fun and relaxing weekend...
Hi SB, many thanks for your kind comments--looking forward to your dill bento :D
So fun how we share ideas and inspirations in the bento community--the dill pesto in this bento was inspired by Gnoe asking recently about good uses for extra dill...and musing on her question, bingo, the idea to make dill pesto!
Hi Susan B, thank YOU for sharing such nice comments and joining my blog! :D
Thank you so much, Heather dear! Are there some shops near you that you like to go to for bento inspiration?
I'm glad I found your blog! But nice ideas! Here from me there are still shops with Russian goods, but it is nice to learn new things! Good, hello, Mauri
Ciao Mauri, thanks so much! Love your COLORFUL blog :D
Очень хорошо. = Russian "Very Good!" A little something I've remembered from language studies long ago. At the time I was cooking up pieroski, strognoff and such. I have to travel to SJ or SF to get to a Russian market. Guess another foodie road trip for us soon. I love the combination of flavors you've put together in this bento. The dill and savory cabbage makes my mouth water. Delish! Here's to your world travels via bento!
Hi Robin! Mmmm, homemade pieroski sound so very good! Would love to hear about your SJ or SF foodie road trip--are you far from these cities? Love the idea of world travel via cooking!
Thanks for alighting by with your warm and fun comments, as always :D!
I've never eaten Russian food and this looks delicious!! You should definitely check out the Nordic shop - Scandinavian food is lovely too, lots of fresh, clean flavours.
Hi Lexi, many thanks! Yes indeed--I lived in Scandinavia for a few years and have some very tasty memories (of beautiful salmon in mushroom cream dill sauce, for example--YUM!) and other Nordic delights. Will be fun to see what ingredients I can find locally :D
Hope your week is off to a great start!
Oh I love this bento! I've been to Russia twice and I love Russian foods (and lovely packages) since then. I wish there were a Russian food shop nearby!
