annangol korean bbq restaurant and grilled duck bento

Hey bento pals, hope you had a fun weekend! We went to our current first choice for Korean, Annangol BBQ restaurant today. Excellent and flavorful from start to finish!

The banchan here are really superior, so fresh and a changing blend of subtle, spicy and pungent tastes...the sesame eggplant and ginger celery were outstanding. Annangol is Jamison's favorite Korean restaurant in the area, saying it provides the most authentic taste of Korea he's had stateside, bringing back fond culinary memories from his years of living in Korea. The elegant, rustic quality of the cuisine is nicely reflected by the simple dining space at Annangol, and the service is friendly and warm as well.

The authentic little touches here are so appealing...like the inclusion of dandelion greens with romaine leaves, adding a wonderful bitter note to the mellow duck. Yum.

This little gem is located at 4215 Annandale Center Drive in Annandale, VA in a cute shopping plaza with a French-Korean bakery and an upscale Korean deli/caterer, to complete your Korean-immersion experience!
Monday's bento includes some lovely duck from our meal and a stir fry of autumn veggies including brussels sprouts, acorn and butternut squash, rainbow chard and mushrooms. Edamame-shrimp dumplings and kongbap also for lunch.

It's great that every Korean restaurant serves so many appetizers. Ive never tried bbq duck, always have bbq chicken so I hope to have a chance to eat it.
Your bento is always veggieful and healthy! Perfect for me that have to lose weight now. Please make me bento every day haha! :D

Ooh! I've never seen duck at a Korean restaurant--that looks delicious! And I agree with Izumi, your bentos are always so healthy and beautiful! Make me bentos too...hehehe.

Hi Izumi! I agree, the little appetizers are really delightful tradition and add much novelty and fun to a Korean meal. Hehe, I'm trying to lose weight before the big celebratory meals of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we'll see if these bentos help :D!

Hi Carol! I'd trade bentos with you any day! Yep, duck in this BBQ setting was a new one for us as well. Our waitress pointed out that duck contains healthy fats...hopefully true, I can say for sure that they were delicious fats :))

I have been wanting to go to a good Korean restaurant for awhile now. All that food looks so wonderful, I wish I was with you! It sure makes for a beautiful bento too!

What a wonderful restaurant and cultural adventure. My first Korean BBQ experience was in Victorville, CA (in the middle of the desert no less.) Loved it and your pictures brought back tasty memories. What a treat and your bento lunch, awww, sweet and savory. Very nice posting my friend :-)

Hi Robin! Oh, that place in CA sounds great! Korean cuisine is so unique and I think perfect fare for the chilly months ahead--spicy, restorative soups, whole grains, grilled meats and fish...yep! Hope you are gearing up for a fab Thanksgiving, pal :D!

Hi Bobo :D! We were new to this dish at a Koream place so had to try it. Are you also a fan of duck? The blue flower is a viola, edible and colorful....
