Hi bento pals! Today's bento features an autumnal owl pastry filled with some yummy roast chicken made by hubby for last night's dinner:
He did an awesome job, glazing the chicken with thyme, honey, and fruit preserves for a lovely golden skin...and roasted it alongside sauteed red onions, walnuts, celery and whole garlic cloves and shallots. Yum indeed.
The owl pastry is filled with shredded pieces of the roast and some of the veggies, and shares the bento with half a purple pepper, baby romaine, golden tomatoes, radish and up top guava paste skewers, Asian pear slices and raspberries. I've added this bento to Shannon's Wednesday roundup!
We have been enjoying some incredibly beautiful weather--crisp, bright and lyrically lit with mid-Autumn sunlight. Many flowers are still in bloom, like this vivid pink rose...
Gimme latte!
Days like this are a special gift...

Your husband does such a wonderful job in the kitchen. The roasted, glazed chicken looks divine! Did you make the owl pastry or was that his too? I never thought to use guava paste like that before, how perfect. Down here we serve it with crackers and a white cheese, which you could put in the bento too. How perfect! I'm getting my guava paste out now! I also like to use puff pastry and stuff little pillows with guava paste and cream cheese, or make little turnovers. Mmmm...
The flower pic is gorgeous! Did the kitty really want the latte or was he just curious? They like to stick their noses in everything! :D
Have a nice evening. I'm off to finally post my Martha Monday project! (I got distracted by your beautiful post and had to check it out)
Yum! You did such a good job on that pastry! I love him! And guava paste sounds amazing, I have been craving quince paste recently. :)
Hi Lyndsey, thanks for your sweet thoughtful comments as always! Jamison is a talented natural cook, and has a great intuitive sense of what will be delish. I'm really lucky to have a spouse who can put together a meal like this when I'm not in the mood to cook!
The pastry is actually store bought Pillbury pie dough, which I find super fun to mold and create with...
I also love that fruit paste Spanish cheese combo (with olive oil roasted almonds, YUM) and your pastries sound so delectable, excellent idea. Yep...will need to try this!
I think the kitty, who lives nearby and is the friendliest, perkiest feline was just curious!
Have a great evening, looking forward to your new post!!
WOWWW!!! I love the owl ... I am enjoy seeing such a beautiful pictures, love your blog ^_^
Hi there SB, thanks, glad you liked my birdie pastry! Fruit pastes seem like a perfect fall treat--as do nuts, cheeses and yummy cooler weather foods.....mmmmm.
It will fun to see the change of seasons reflected in your very fresh bentos :D!
Hi Lina, a treat to have you visit and comment here! Thanks and see you at your blog :D
Such a cute bento! I love the owl, and hubby certainly did make a tasty-lookin' bird! We've had wonderful weather here as well.. unseasonable warm (which I like, a LOT) but still the trees are turning lovely colors. You always do such a fantastic job at reflecting the beauty of the seasons in your bentos!
Oh and also, I never ever thought to use guava paste like that.. so you just cut it with a food cutter and it's good to go? Will it hold up (stay firm and not get all smooshed) in a bento that's packed and taken to work? I'm fascinated!
Hi Megg, thanks a bunch! Oh, sounds delightful where you are right now. How do you feel about Chicago winters?
The little fruit paste flowers are relatively firm so hopefully no smooshing!
Oh..yummy roast chicken, can I have some, please? :) The bento is awesome, amazing skills in bento making and presenting it. Enjoy looking at all the photos.
Hi Emily, yes please pull up a chair! Lovely to have you visit and comment here, my friend :D
