A bento with spicy, warming Korean seafood rice (leftover from a recent H-Mart dolsot feast) with shrimp, squid and yummy hot bean paste, buna shimeji mushrooms, red cabbage with chili oil, and Chinese eggplant. Purple cabbage hearts and yellow pepper garnish the rice, snow pea tops brighten the upper left corner. Love is in the air with heart details, a love story in miniature, and moon-leaping rabbits!
Exploring some cool-color harmonies before diving into the warmer climate of hapa bento's red-themed February B.O.M.B. challenge, so here we have a bright purple primrose and deep blue bunny chopsticks propped on a piece of lapis lazuli from Afghanistan.
Extending the blue theme: this detail from a 15th century Persian minature depicting the love story of Khosrow and Shirin:

Wishing you a joyous "month of love", bento friends!
So beautiful and very nice post Jenn! Love how you put your imagination & creativity into bento form and set up so nice background for the picture so we can really enjoy it (^.^)
ReplyDeleteLovely as always. Can't wait to see your red bento for valentine's day! Hope you are having a wonderful week, can't wait to see whats in store for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI love today's violet theme. It's my favorite color of all, and I feel happy looking at your words and pictures right now.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that.
:D
I'm getting to love to learn more about khosrow and shirin now. The purple cabbage hearts and yellow pepper slices nicely accented this yummy bento! The purple primrose is so pretty and cute!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my birthstone is lapis lazuli. Have you been to Afghanistan? I love lapis lazuli ^0^
Ah, Lia--thank you! I love the creative flow between your bentos and colorful backgrounds :)

and I've been wanting to explore blues and violets together ever since! So thanks for the inspiration and with your comment it feels like a circle has been completed!
Hi Izumi!
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks for your visit! So nice to read as I have my chai this morning. Glad you liked the link! Hubby brought the lapis back with him after a several month deployment in Afghanistan last summer into fall. I love its deep blue with gold sparkles! What month is lapis the birthstone for?
Your hubby is really sweet to present such a beautiful thing to you!
ReplyDeleteThe month of lapis is December. :)
Aw, yes--he is indeed! We really missed each other during that tour. Thanks for sharing your birth-stone month! I have a July birthday and have read different things about which stone is associated with that month...
ReplyDeleteI could look at this post ALL DAY! The pictures are so peaceful and appealing to the eye. *sigh* Unfortunately I have a busy day ahead ;) But it's like I've been meditating so that's a good start! LOL
ReplyDeleteAH, many thanks! I also find deep blues and violet shades so calming--making variations on this bento theme would be good therapy for me on stressful days! It makes me SO happy that you enjoyed this post and found it relaxing! Thinking of your recent, lovely winterscapes, we have a real winter wonderland this morning in the DC area--two feet of snow and still falling!
