cha soba bento

Hi bento pals!  Lunch for Tuesday features green tea soba noodles with ginger, chives, yellow pepper, maitake mushrooms, chives and snow peas. Teriyaki eel with garlic buds and a slice of Japanese turnip pickle (with a bit of wasabi tobiko on top) also inside.

The turnip pickle in its pretty package:

Yearning for spring as I do this time of year, the bright pink pickle lends a welcome vivid note of color (I used a cherry blossom cutter for the floral imprint)

 Yummy teriyaki eel

Hope your week is off to a good start!

  25. OMG, this is so full of color I love it. I have not heard of a maitake mushroom before, they are beautiful! I love the Japanese turnip pickle, I am going to look for that! You are so clever with the flower cutter and wasabi tobiko on top. My last bento looks just put together, not created! I think I need to find a new bento box to get my creative juices flowing again. I am also searching for a bamboo bento, it gives the whole thing a little warmth (if that makes any sense).

We are finally getting to normal temps back in the 70s again. I'm a happy camper! Your bentos always help too!

    Happy Wednesday! Cheers!

  27. Hi Lyndsey, always love reading your warm and friendly comments! Glad you liked this one--using colors as winter therapy for a gray month!

OMG, I'm with you re bamboo bento boxes, please tell me if you find a good source. It is the one bento item I really crave for my collection now! I know Rakuten has them per megan's beautiful posts but I've been holding back on a slightly splurgy purchase(shipping=ouch!). Maybe I just need to go ahead anyway!

"Wamth" is exactly the word for what is so appealing about this type of bento box :)

Speaking of warmth, please enjoy those 70 degree temperatures for me, dear pal! I'll bet your creative inspiration will be rebounding in no time...

  36. Ohhh! Where did you get the eel? Did you prepare it yourself? My hubby and I loooove eel, and I would love to know how to prepare it.

  37. Hi there SB! We picked up this eel at a Japanese market (Mitsuwa)...was wondering, how's shopping for Japanese food items in Sonoma County? Do you go to San Fran for them?
