Amazing that despite some very cold nights, flowers here are persisting. On a walk through Old Town Alexandria yesterday, roses and dahlias in the Christ Church garden:
Yummy pastries at Le Pain Quotidien
I purchased some Blood Orange marmalade but am still dreaming of that pistachio treat!
Today's bento features baby spinach and smoked trout, red cabbage cooked with some of the lovely blood orange preserves, golden beet flowers, lady apple (love the flavor combination of smoked trout and apple) green beans and a wedge of pumpkin spice bread made by our friend Cheryl (thanks again C.!)
Have a relaxing and fun weekend, guys!
I really needed this Jenn! My days have been super long and busy with not much chance of really cooking, blogging, much less bento-ing.
ReplyDeleteYour bento is so pretty along with the flowers that are still in bloom. I'm surprised that you still have so many! Or do they just bloom for you? :D The red cabbage looks wonderful and I love the dish it's in. I have to look for a bamboo bento box I really like the looks of yours...it's on my list!
I also like how the golden beets look cut like that, and that has to be the cutest little apple! Like what would grow in our apple tree when I was growing up in Michigan! Of course the smoked trout looks amazing.
I'll take one of those pistachio tarts please!
Hi there Lyndsey!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool detailed comment, thanks for sharing! Sounds like a really busy time, hope things will get less hectic soon :D The garden at Christ Church is blessed with skilled and attentive gardeners and maybe a special micro climate near the Potomac River? Michigan to Sarasota is quite a transition...I'd have a hard time with Michigan winters, brrrr!
It really feels like fall when I start cooking red cabbage again...This bento box was found at J-List a while back, maybe they still have it? It was reasonably priced and I love it!
Hey, let's split one of these tarts, ok?
Blood orange marmalade would make my heart sing on a slice of San Francisco sourdough toast with a touch of sweet butter. And Lady Apple and smoked trout combo. You have given me a wonderful idea for a brunch menu.
ReplyDeleteIs that first photo a Peace Rose? And did you make that charming birdie? So cute!
Never seen smoked trout! How was it? I'm with you on the pistachio tart!! Super lovely bento, once again :D
ReplyDeleteI love to see your bento, every time i look at it i feel so relax. Maybe it's because your bento always use natural food :)
ReplyDeleteDid someone mention "pistachio tart"..oh...I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteA beutiful and healthy bento, Jenn. Have a joyful weekend, my dear. :)
Couldn't be more happier to look at your masterpiece. Gorgeous bento! That golden beet flowers are so beautiful with that swirl effect. Love the flower pictures, I want those in my garden hehehe :D Have a beautiful weekend Jenn!

Thank you dear Sysyl! I'm so happy to read your comment and that you enjoyed this little bento!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily! Thanks, I'd love to share some with you...wishing you a weekend as buoyant and happy as your bentos!
ReplyDeleteHi Lia dear, you always notice little details, thank you! I also enjoyed the swirl pattern when I sliced the beets! Happy, happy weekend my friend :D
ReplyDeleteHi again Judy!
ReplyDeleteThough there is an amazing Peace Rose in the church garden, she was not in bloom on this visit. I think this one is a softly pink David Austin variety--there are so many!

I found the cute little birdie at a local paper and card shop, thanks for asking :D!
eek, that tiny apple-shaped dish is too cute! love the pretty and bright golden beet blossoms here, too. plus, what a perfect combo of brilliant fall flavors -- agree with you 100% about smokiness and apple as a great match, plus the spicy pumpkin sounds divine!
ReplyDeletethanks so much megan! I'm going to explore more smoked trout and apple combos in bentos to come, it tasted very autumnal :D!
